Child Support Act 1991

General provisions - Miscellaneous provisions

239: Notification requirements

You could also call this:

“Child support: Telling the government about changes in your life”

If you’re someone who pays or receives child support, you need to tell the government office in charge (called the Commissioner) if you move to a new address. You should do this as soon as you can.

The Commissioner might also send you a letter asking you to tell them about other things that happen in your life. This could be if you’re looking after a child who gets support, if you pay support, or if you receive support. The letter will explain what kind of changes you need to tell them about and how to do it.

You might need to tell the Commissioner if something has already happened, or if you know it’s going to happen soon. But don’t worry - they can only ask you about things that could change how much child support is paid or how often it’s paid.

Remember, it’s important to let the Commissioner know about these things quickly so they can make sure the child support payments are correct.
