Electricity Industry Act 2010

Electricity industry governance - Who does what - Small Electricity Consumers Agency

22B: Function of agency

You could also call this:

“The agency's job is to speak up for people who use electricity at home or in small businesses”

The Small Electricity Consumers Agency has a job to help domestic consumers and small business consumers in the electricity industry. This means they speak up for you and other people who use electricity at home or in small businesses.

The agency can do its job in different ways. It can talk to government departments and other official groups about what’s best for you and other electricity users. It can also look at new ideas or plans about electricity and tell people what it thinks would be good for you and other consumers. The agency doesn’t just wait to be asked - it can speak up on its own if it thinks there’s something important to say.

When the agency talks about what’s good for consumers, it uses facts and evidence to back up what it’s saying. This helps make sure that when decisions are made about electricity, the needs of people like you who use it at home or in small businesses are thought about.
