Student Loan Scheme Act 2011

Preliminary matters, loan advances, and New Zealand-based and overseas-based borrowers - Establishment of student loan

16: Loan manager must notify Commissioner of borrower's details

You could also call this:

“Loan company tells tax office about student borrowers”

When you become a borrower for a student loan, the loan manager has to tell the Commissioner about you. The loan manager also needs to let the Commissioner know if any of your details change or if they find out that some information they gave was wrong.

The loan manager has to give the Commissioner a lot of information about you. This includes the date you got your loan letter, your full name, your tax file number, and your birthday. They also need to give your postal address, email address, and phone number if you have them. There might be other things they need to tell the Commissioner too, if the rules say so.

If the loan manager is fixing or changing any of your information, they need to say which bits they’re updating.

The Commissioner and the loan manager can decide together how often they’ll share this information, what it should look like, and how they’ll send it to each other. They need to write down what they agree on. Even if there are other rules about how to share information, the Commissioner and loan manager can choose their own way for this specific task.
