Electricity Act 1992

Registration and licensing of electrical workers and employer licences - Employer licences

123: Powers of inspection

You could also call this:

“The Board can check workplaces to make sure electrical work is safe and follows the rules”

If you hold an employer licence, the Board can inspect your workplace. They can enter any place you use for work, except your home, at a reasonable time. They must have a good reason for the inspection.

The Board can ask you to show them any documents they need to see. They can make copies of these documents. They can also ask you for any information they need. You must give them what they ask for within the time they set.

If you don’t follow these rules, the Board can take action against you under section 120.

The person doing the inspection must tell you before they come, unless that would stop them from doing their job properly. When they arrive, and if you ask later, they must show you proof of who they are and why they are allowed to be there.

The Board does these inspections to make sure you’re following the rules of your licence. They also check that the electrical work your employees do is safe, done well, and follows the law.
