Accident Compensation Act 2001

Miscellaneous provisions - Regulation-making powers

327: Regulations relating to indexation

You could also call this:

“Rules for adjusting payments to match changes in living costs”

The Governor-General can make rules about how to adjust certain payments for changes in the cost of living. This is called indexation. These rules can be made on the advice of the Minister. The rules can say:

  • How to calculate changes to weekly compensation payments
  • How to calculate changes to other types of payments
  • When these changes should take effect
  • How to adjust the independence allowance

These rules are a type of law called secondary legislation. This means they need to be published in a certain way, as explained in the Legislation Act 2019.
